Traffic and bandwidth: what is included and how it is metered
A short reference on how our bandwidth and traffic accounting work — so you don't have to ask support.
Bandwidth: rx and tx are counted separately
The advertised port speed applies in each direction: on a 1 Gbit/s plan that is 1 Gbit/s inbound (rx) and 1 Gbit/s outbound (tx). The same holds for 5 and 10 Gbit/s.
The uplink is shared: bandwidth is distributed between the clients of a node, so the speed is not guaranteed around the clock.
Only outgoing traffic (tx) is metered
Incoming traffic (rx) is not counted. The reason is simple: inbound volume is out of your control — during a DDoS attack on your address it can be enormous, and the bill would be unpredictable. So only what the server sends out is metered.
What's included
- Up to 50 TB of outgoing traffic per billing period of the service.
- Symmetric bandwidth per your plan (rx and tx counted separately).
What happens if you exceed it
- 1 TB over the package costs €1.
- It is charged automatically at 00:00 UTC from your billing balance.
- If the balance is insufficient, the speed is shaped to 10 Mbit/s until you top it up.
The server is neither blocked nor powered off: it keeps running, just at a limited speed until the balance is topped up.
